We build concrete sleeper, timber, sandstone and gabion retaining walls for homes and properties across Sydney's Northern Beaches and North Shore. You might be levelling a sloped block in Belrose, creating a flat garden terrace in Mona Vale, or holding back a cut for a new driveway in Killara. Whatever the situation, we build the wall for the job in front of us. Every wall starts with a proper look at your site, the soil and what the council will require, and we recommend the material that actually suits it. From the first site visit through to the final backfill, one team stays on the job so nothing gets lost between trades. Get in touch and we'll talk you through what your site actually needs.

Permeable and forgiving on shifting or waterlogged ground, with a distinctive natural finish.

Each sleeper is steel-reinforced, so the wall handles the pressure of retained soil without bowing or shifting over time. They also come in a range of finishes and colours, so the wall can sit quietly in the background or become a feature of the garden. Once it's in, there's very little upkeep involved. No repainting, no treating, just a wall that does its job.

Timber is still the wall of choice for a lot of Northern Beaches homes that want a softer, more natural look than concrete or stone. We build in treated pine or hardwood depending on the height of the wall and what it's holding back. It's a practical option that doesn't cut corners on strength, which makes it a good fit for garden beds, low retaining sections and general landscaping work. Properly built and treated, a timber wall holds its own for years on the right site.

It's a genuinely durable material, built to handle the weight of retained soil for the long haul. We lay it in sawn block, cut block or random rubble layouts, depending on the style of the home and the look you're after. It's a material that ages well, weathering into the landscape rather than looking dated.

Gabion walls are built from stone-filled wire cages, and they're a good fit for the steeper, wetter blocks you find across parts of the Northern Beaches. Because the structure is permeable, water drains straight through it instead of building up pressure behind the wall. That makes it a practical option on sites with drainage issues or ground that shifts a little over time. It also has a distinctive natural finish that a lot of homeowners like left as a feature rather than rendered over.

Once everything's approved, we get to work. Proper drainage and compliant footings go in from the start, and we keep you in the loop if anything on site changes.
You're left with a finished wall, a tidy site and nothing left half done.
Sloped and erosion-prone blocks across the Northern Beaches and North Shore often need council approval or an engineered design before work can start. We manage that process as part of the job, not as a separate hurdle you have to sort out yourself.
We don't push one wall type across every job. Concrete sleeper, timber, sandstone and gabion each suit different soil, slope and drainage conditions, and we recommend the one that actually fits your property.
A retaining wall that looks right but ignores drainage is a wall that fails early. We plan drainage into every wall from the design stage, not as an afterthought once it's already built.
You'll know what's happening on your site and why, from the first visit through to the last day on the job. No jargon, no chasing us for updates.
It depends on the height of the wall and your council area, but a lot of retaining walls across the Northern Beaches and North Shore do need either council approval, an engineered design, or both. We factor this into the process from the start, rather than leaving you to work it out separately.
It comes down to your soil, the height and slope you're retaining, and the look you're after. Concrete sleeper suits most sloped suburban blocks, timber suits a softer garden look, sandstone suits period or heritage-style homes, and gabion suits wetter or shifting ground. We'll talk you through which one fits once we've seen the site.
Yes. Drainage is built into every wall we design, not treated as an extra. Poor drainage is one of the most common reasons retaining walls fail, so it's planned in from the start rather than added on afterwards.
We do, and boundary walls need a bit more care, from confirming exact boundary lines to keeping neighbours informed before work starts. We manage that side of things as part of the job, so it doesn't become something you have to sort out yourself.
We cover the Northern Beaches and adjoining North Shore suburbs, including Manly, Mona Vale, Narrabeen, Avalon Beach, Newport, Collaroy, Palm Beach, Chatswood, Willoughby and Turramurra, along with the surrounding areas. If you're not sure whether your suburb's covered, get in touch and we'll confirm it.
From concrete sleeper and timber through to sandstone and gabion, we build retaining walls that are engineered properly, drained properly and matched to your site. Wherever you are between the Northern Beaches and the North Shore, get in touch and we'll help you get it done right.
